Overview

The CoRE: The Politics of Sustainable Development is a collaborative hub uniting experts across social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and law to drive impactful research and bridge the gap between science, policy, and practice. Our mission is to foster societal transformation and ensure long-term sustainability by equipping researchers, policymakers, and early-career scholars with actionable knowledge.

Through a dynamic network of knowledge partners—including senior researchers, policymakers, doctoral students, and early-career scholars—we empower evidence-based policymaking to tackle climate challenges and advance sustainable development.

Our Goals

  • Strengthen governance for sustainable development by increasing research and policy engagement.
  • Train at least 40 PhD candidates across African universities within 10 years, equipping them with the skills to design and implement national and regional policies in Africa and Europe.
  • Contribute to the ARUA-The Guild alliance by transforming research into cost-effective, inclusive policies that promote equitable and sustainable development.

Our Focus Areas

Our impact is measured through research, capacity building, and collaboration across three key pillars:

  1. Political Engagement for a Just Transition – Advancing policies for fair and sustainable development.
  2. African Perspectives on Climate Adaptation & Sustainable Development – Centering local expertise in global solutions.
  3. PhD Program on Leadership for Societal Transformation – Training the next generation of sustainability leaders.
